Discussing The Holiday That Promotes And Explains How You Can Change A Pet’s Life For The Better

January 24th, 2023 is known and celebrated as Change A Pet’s Life Day. As the name suggests, it is a pet-themed holiday that encourages and promotes making a positive change in a pet’s life. But how do you make a significant difference in a pet’s life? That’s where Cowtown Cat Cuddlers has you covered! This article will cover everything you need to know about this wonderful pet-themed holiday and how you can get involved.

The Meaning Behind The Holiday

While it’s difficult to determine exactly who started this holiday, we can determine why the holiday was created. Change A Pet’s Life Day was created to help promote and encourage people to adopt shelter animals. According to the A.S.P.C.A. (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters every year. Out of those 6.3 million, 3.2 million are cats and 3.1 million are dogs. Needless to say, this is a huge problem. Even animal shelters have their limits regarding resources, space, and staff. These shelter animals are in desperate need of a good home and adopting even just one can change their life forever.

Animal Shelters

One of the very first animal shelters in the U.S. was established in 1896 in the state of Pennsylvania. It was originally established by the Women’s Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and was intended to facilitate horses. Eventually they would expand to facilitate lost and abandoned dogs as well as put them up for adoption. Over the years more animal shelters were created all across the country and the world to facilitate a wider variety of animals including cats, birds, and small mammals. These animal shelters play a vital part in many stray, lost, or abandoned animals' lives. They provide food, water, temporary housing, attention, and a chance of being adopted. Animal shelters have changed pet’s lives for the better.

How You Can Get Involved

There are several ways you can get involved in this wonderful pet-themed awareness holiday. The most obvious way to participate in this holiday is to adopt a shelter animal. Adopting a shelter animal is a truly selfless experience that gives the pet a place to call home and gives you a new best friend. However, adopting a pet is a huge responsibility and not everyone is able to take on such a responsibility. Besides adoption, you can also foster a shelter pet. This helps you if you’re not fully committed to adopting and helps the pet as it prepares them for adoption into a new home. Lastly, you can always sponsor a shelter animal. This allows you to provide funding for a shelter animal's needs without having to actually bring them home.

Making A Difference

Every pet deserves a good home and a loving family. However, there is an overwhelming number of shelter animals that don’t get adopted. As a result, roughly 920,000 shelter animals are euthanized every year. These statistics are tragic, but they can be prevented. Change A Pet’s Life Day aims to fix this problem and help these shelter animals find a good home. But, the most important part of this holiday is you. It’s the responsible pet owners and dedicated pet lovers like you that make this holiday work and that help make a difference in shelter animals lives.
